We offer a service called Design To Go where we make all of the big and small design decisions for your construction project in one studio session. We then prepare documents for you to communicate our design intent to the contractor and subs. With these documents, you are equipped to do the project management yourself. From our client Eva Lisle “the project management is so simple because if the construction team had a question, I just referred them to the documents you made for us!” It really is that simple. Because we aren’t involved in the project management portion, we are able to offer kitchen and bathroom design at a a fraction of the cost of full service design.
Eva and her husband John were the best part about this project. They were interesting, loving and so much fun to work with. Not to mention so appreciative. It was a great reminder that our job isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces but about creating connections with people.
Let’s get into this one:
The Wishlist:
- Respect the history of the home
- A bath with presence
- Luxury
- Feminine
We, of course, love all of the above. They weren’t totally sure how many walls they wanted to take down, so we proposed two different layouts. One where we left things mostly in tact and another we stole space from the guest bedroom which changed everything. We were able to create a spacious, luxurious bathroom that would meet all of their needs while maintaining the integrity and function of the bedroom. Spoiler alert, they chose the bigger layout.
These clients have an incredible history and their home reflects that. They’ve traveled a lot for both work and pleasure and have made an intentional effort to bring pieces of their travels into their home. The whole house is filled with layers of texture, color, and pattern so we knew we needed to bring the same energy into the bathroom. We recommended a beautiful zellige tile with a lot of shade variation paired with the perfect floral wallpaper. Zellige tile doesn’t have a trim piece and while it can be mitered, it is a bit more prone to breaking in this process. The usual solution is Schluter which is typically a bad word around here, but we were able to specify it in brass and turn it into a design element. It trims the room in brass and really ups the luxury.
After our meeting, the clients were set off to manage the project. They did get a follow up communication with us to deal with a few items that had gone out of stock and we helped with reselections. Fast forward to last month, Eva and John invited us in to shoot the project and have tea with them. Truly the best!
To sum it up, the Lisle bathroom redesign turned out amazing! During a Design To Go session we work on the space in real time so the collaboration between the clients and design team is truly something special. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the choices, the Design To Go service is a great option for an elevated and intentionally designed space without the stress. Cheers to a successful project and happy clients!
